Flores… the Goddess of Cascades

Flores… the Goddess of Cascades

Here ends Europe.
Next to Flores Island, Monchique Islet, demarcates the border between the “new and the old world”.
This island is wonderful. There are those who say that it is the most beautiful of the Azores, as it offers a little "everything" that can be enjoyed on the other islands, in what is nature in its most natural forms of expression. Lagoons - also of various colors, waterfalls (so many and so beautiful), fajãs, extraordinary geological manifestations, along with other outcrops of prismatic disjunctions in various locations on the island's coastal cliffs, such as Rocha dos Bordões, mantles of green meadows as far as the eye can see, magnificent trails and a whole harmonious array of scenery, which earned it the UNESCO classification of Biosphere Reserve.
Easily goes back to the sec. XV and its toponymy is understood, given the abundance of yellow flowers, the "cubres" that covered the coast of the island, a giant garden to which today are added azaleas and hydrangeas, this ones in such abundance that determine the morphology of the island, giving it, especially in summer months, an even more beautiful view. And, focusing specifically on the beautiful, I present (my) pertussis on the island. Poço da Alagoinha!
A true paradise of unspoilt nature where waters ceaselessly flow down the escarpment forming several small waterfalls that flow into a lake of translucent waters, which - with the effect of a mirror, duplicates this view of Eden.
To get there, you have to go through an irregular sidewalk trail, in some points slippery due to the dense forest that does not allow enough rays of sunlight to penetrate to keep the access dry. However beautiful and fragrant. With a fresh fragrance the vegetation touched by the morning mist, curiously perpetuated throughout the day. Contemplation here is mandatory.
I sit lightly.
Paradise was born here, I think, trying to follow the symphony that comes from the sound of the waters and the song of birds. Officially named - Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro, and also known as Lagoa das Patas, Poço da Alagoinha integrates the area of the Morro Alto Forest Reserve, where sections of the official routes of the Little Route - Lajedo to Fajã Grande and Great Route of Flores, a circular path, trod by traditional paths flanked by stone walls, footpaths, carters and some (very little) asphalt.
I keep walking, as I smile in silence for fear that some noise might break the spell.
I realize that the sun is high. In the Azores, time runs slowly… but it does! I settle and follow… the day is long and there is a lot of island ahead.

Flores…a Deusa das Cascatas

Aqui termina a Europa.
A contemplação aqui é obrigatória.
Sento-me despreocupadamente.
